Learn how to create a welding map in CAD, automatically number and bubble your welds, and build a complete weld schedule using DATAEXTRACTION.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to use QBOM Parts to place intelligent markers at weld locations. These markers store attribute information directly in the drawing, allowing QBOM to automatically number and bubble each weld.
Once the welding map is complete, we’ll use DATAEXTRACTION to pull the stored information from the drawing and create a weld schedule that corresponds directly with the numbered weld bubbles.
We’ll also take a closer look at QBOM Parts and cover how to:
* Create and bubble weld markers
* Generate a weld schedule with DATAEXTRACTION
* Customize and map fields such as Diameter, Joint Type, Spec, Welder and Date
* Save field maps and reuse previous prompt values
* Change marker styles, sizes and other settings
* Edit information stored in existing markers
* Use QBOM Parts for items other than welds
* Include QBOM Parts alongside regular piping components in the same BOM or pipe schedule
QBOM Parts isn’t limited to welding maps. It can be used to itemize virtually anything in a CAD drawing. Simply activate the QBOMPART entity in DATAEXTRACTION, and those custom items can be scheduled along with your regular Mech-Q piping components.
The workflow is simple:
QBOM PARTS ? QBOM BUBBLES ? DATAEXTRACTION ? SCHEDULE
This tutorial is demonstrated in AViCAD with Mech-Q. AViCAD is a DWG-compatible AutoCAD alternative available with non-subscription, monthly and yearly licensing options.
