Create Custom Line Types in AutoCAD & AViCAD – Step-by-Step
In this video, I’m walking through how to create your own custom line type in AutoCAD—or AViCAD, which is what I’m using here. I’ll start with the built-in Make Linetype command. We’ll fill out the basics like name, description, and scale, and then save that line type to a file so we can load it into any drawing later on.
If you want to customize further—like increasing the spacing between text or repeating a unique symbol—you can open the .LIN file in Notepad and adjust the values manually. I’ll show you how to remove the old version from your drawing and reload the new one so your changes actually appear.
Toward the end, we’ll get into more advanced line types using shape files—yep, SHX files. I’ll go over creating a shape, compiling it, loading it, and then using it to build a repeating pattern in your custom line type. It sounds like a lot, but I’ll keep it simple.
